Sedation Dentistry in Charlotte, NC

It’s not uncommon for children to have fear take over when they hear of the dentist. Adults might also tense up with dental anxiety at their next appointment, but we know better, don’t we? It isn’t better to endure the agonizing toothache than experiencing dental anxiety the moment you place foot in your dentist’s office. If you’re a resident of Charlotte, you’re in luck because we offer Sedation Dentistry!

Sedation Dentistry: Say Goodbye to Dental Fear

Sedation Dentistry in Charlotte

Sedation Dentistry – What is it?

In Sedation Dentistry, particular medications are used to help the patient relax to the fullest, taking the edge off and push anxiety away so that the patient can ease through the entire dental procedure. If you want to get in and out of the dentist’s office quickly, then you need to stay put with reactions and interruptions and Sedation Dentistry can help you do just that. Under sedation, you will stop fidgeting around with anxiety or nervousness.

Additionally, if you have a fear of dentists, it will disappear as soon as you’re sedated from our well qualified professional dentists who have been alleviating this fear from all those who have it through Sedation Dentistry for year.

The most enticing part about Sedation Dentistry for most patients is that they don’t feel pain at all! Not only will the pain disappear, but the fear of pain will vanish too. People often misunderstand Sedation Dentistry and think it puts the patient to sleep. That isn’t true.

When you’re sedated, you’re still awake and you’ll be aware of what’s going on to some extent too. In fact, you can even respond to your dentist when you have to, which usually comes in handy when one of our professionals ask the patient in the chair if they feel relaxed to which they nod yes. So, the next time you walk away from your dentist’s office, you’ll take away nice memories of relaxation with you instead of bad ones.

There are four main kinds of sedation that we use:

  1. IV sedation: The sedative will be administered intravenously to you, which will work almost immediately and also allow the dentist to adjust the dose.
  2. Oral sedation: This method may range from minimal to moderate sedation depending on the dose given to the patient. A pill is given to the patient about an hour before the procedure to produce mild or moderate sedation depending on the procedure.
  3. Nitrous oxide: Nitrous oxide commonly known as “laughing gas” mixed with oxygen is given to the patient through a mask over the nose. The effect of nitrous oxide can wear off relatively quickly and you can drive yourself home after the procedure! The amount of sedation can be easily controlled by our experienced dentists.
  4. General anesthesia: General anesthesia is induced by medications and makes the patient go to deep sleep during the procedure. Whereas under general anesthesia, you can’t be awakened until it wears off or is reversed with medication from our skilled professionals.

So, if you’re in Charlotte, stop by for a checkup and don’t worry about pain or dentophobia because we provide oral sedation to make your experience here mellow and easy.
